Exteriors and Historic Preservation

The Exteriors and Historic Preservation team of project managers – including architects, conservators and engineers – is responsible for the repairs, restoration and cleaning of historic facades, historic window replacement, interior historic elements and landmarked buildings, as well as roof repair and replacement for more than 300 buildings across the residential and academic portfolios.

The team pays critical attention to a building’s details – color, texture, coursing and more – referencing historic images of each structure. Exteriors and Historic Preservation has an ongoing list of projects which contribute to revitalizing the campus and Columbia’s neighboring communities.

Why am I seeing more protective sidewalk shedding?

As you walk in and around the Morningside campus, you may notice more protective sidewalk shedding installed around buildings. The majority of this protective shedding is connected to the New York City Department of Buildings (DOB) Façade Inspection and Safety Program.
