The new Business School buildings – Henry R. Kravis Hall and David Geffen Hall – received the 2023 Urban Land Institute New York (ULI NY) Award for Excellence in Institutional Development at a gala reception on October 18 at Cipriani South Street. The statewide competition recognizes projects that demonstrate commitment to planning, design, sustainability, and community impact.
Columbia earned an Outstanding Project Award from Learning by Design for the renovation of the Walter and Shirley Fan Wang ESPORTS Room in Wallach Hall. The award was received in the “University Renovation” category as part of Learning by Design’s Fall 2023 Architectural Interior Design Awards of Excellence competition which honors innovative and effective projects in K-12 and post-secondary education facilities across the country.
Summer is a busy time for Facilities and Operations. Although construction occurs throughout the year, the summer allows Facilities and Operations to perform a wide range of campus improvements when the campus is less populated, lessening the impacts to the greater campus community.
Last month, we celebrated the hard work of the construction teams at 600 W. 125th Street through a topping out ceremony. When complete in 2024, the building will serve as new University housing with retail on the ground level.

Did you know that the summer is one of the busiest times for Facilities and Operations? While many students and faculty are away on a well-deserved break, Facilities and Operations likes to take advantage of the quieter campus to perform a wide range of improvements.
To align with the goals established in Plan 2030 for project-based sustainability efforts, Columbia will assess, update, and create policies to deliver a new sustainability standard that ensures all building design and construction decisions are aligned with Plan 2030 science-based targets and Local Law 97 (LL97), ensuring the University meets them.
The renovation of the Pasupathy Lab in Pupin Hall includes expanded and upgraded lab space on the 1st and 2nd floors; the creation of STM experimental chambers; mechanical and infrastructure support; and a cosmetic refresh of office space on the 13th floor.
