Facilities and Operations has released new design guidelines for laboratory and research facilities on all Columbia campuses, serving as an outline for Columbia project managers, architects, engineers, and laboratory design consultants to create consistently designed, best-in-class environments for researching and teaching.

Columbia University’s new Business School buildings at the Manhattanville campus were recognized with an Honor Award in the Architecture category from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) New York, the highest level of achievement granted as part of the organization’s 2023 Design Awards program.

The disability access lift in the International Affairs Building received a Citation Award from the American Institute of Architects (AIA) Westchester + Hudson Valley Chapter as part of their 2022 Design Awards ceremony.

Columbia University continued the trend of sustainable new construction with its new Business School buildings, Henry R. Kravis and David Geffen Halls, and The Square, a one-acre public green space, which combined were awarded LEED® Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).

The lower-level event space in Lerner Hall is about to undergo a transformation worthy of its location on Broadway. 

Over the course of the next year, renovation will take place to create a world-class performance space for musical, dance, and artist performances, and arts-related programming and activities.

While many Columbians may look forward to the summer for a well-deserved break, Facilities and Operations eagerly anticipates it for a different reason - the opportunity to perform a wide range of projects across campus. 

Thanks to a generous donation made by University Trustee Shirley Wang BUS’93 and Walter Wang, the lounge has been transformed to a state-of-the-art e-gaming room for undergraduate students, set to officially open in Fall 2022. 

Over winter, Facilities and Operations replaced the floating dock system at the Muscota Marsh East Dock on the Harlem River. The new dock is structurally safer, extends farther out to address changing water levels, and has improved access to the water to launch boats easier. 

Columbia Business School moves into new home at Manhattanville campus

Columbia University’s new Business School buildings at the Manhattanville campus were recognized with an Excellence in Structural Engineering Award in the category of new buildings from the Structural Engineers Association of New York (SEAoNY).

Submit requests for Summer 2022 capital projects online at “Initiate a New Construction or Renovation Project” by logging in with your UNI and password. For projects that must be implemented over the Summer 2022, the deadline for submission is September 15, 2021.
