Summer 2026 Façade Repair Projects at the Morningside Campus
As you walk around the Morningside campus this summer, you may notice sidewalk sheds and scaffolding erected around some campus buildings.
Facilities and Operations is performing a number of façade repair projects, the majority of which are connected to the NYC Department of Building (DOB)’s Façade Inspection Safety Program. Also known as Local Law 11, the Façade Inspection Safety Program requires property owners to perform exterior facade inspections on buildings and issue reports to the NYC DOB on a rotating five-year cycle.
This summer, scaffolding and sidewalk shedding will be featured most prominently around the CESPR skybridge, Mudd, Fairchild and Avery on upper campus, as well as Hartley, Wallach, and John Jay on lower campus.
The list of active façade projects on the Morningside campus includes:
- Avery Hall: Façade repairs and window painting
- CEPSR and Skybridges: Repairs to the skybridges and CEPSR façade. Skybridge work includes the installation of a new roof, removal of existing paint and rust, and repainting. Sidewalk shedding and pipe scaffolding towers will be erected between CEPSR, Mudd, and Pupin, extending to the skybridge.
- Fairchild: Repairs to the façade
- John Jay: Repairs to the façade, including caulking around windows. Pipe scaffolding towers will be erected on the sides of the building.
- Lewisohn: Repairs to the façade
- Mudd: Façade repairs, including ornamental ironwork. The Computer Science Courtyard will be partially closed for a portion of time to allow for site access.
- School of Social Work: Repairs to the façade
- Wallach: Repairs to the façade
These projects – as well as other construction projects not associated with the Façade Inspection Safety Plan, such as the Hartley Hall renovation – require scaffolding and sidewalk shedding to support site access and protect pedestrians and surrounding property while work is performed.
Repair work will be prioritized so that sidewalk shedding and scaffolding can be removed on the campus facing sides first, where possible, while work continues on facades facing streets. All scaffolding and sidewalk shedding will be removed once projects are complete and have passed inspection.
