Facilities and Operations replaced and rebuilt all four elevators in the International Affairs Building, including the mechanical system and aesthetic improvements to the elevator cabs. The new elevators utilize “destination dispatch,” a technology that uses an algorithm to group passengers together based on the floor they have chosen to exit on to reduce the amount of time spent waiting for an elevator and reduce the number of elevator stops on a given ride. The refined elevator cabins and destination dispatch technology befit the International Affairs Building as a center of activity for students, faculty, and staff across Columbia and as a venue for many high-profile guests.
