Historic Restoration of Low Library Flagpoles

An American flag flaps in the wind next to Low Library, with Northwest Corner, Earl Hall, and Riverside Church in the background.

Facilities and Operations is commencing a historic restoration of the flagpoles located on the east and west sides of Low Library after severe winds damaged one of the flagpoles. This project will include the restoration of the flagpoles’ main components and fabrication of new masts that keep with the design and use of the original flagpoles.

The project will take place in phases:

  • Phase 1: Offsite restoration of the finials on top of the mast, metal transition collar at the base of the mast, stone base, and plaques.
  • Phase 2: Fabrication of a new, sturdier mast to ensure the highest safety standard and longevity. This phase is anticipated to take the longest due to fabrication lead times.
  • Phase 3: Foundation testing and mast base preparation to perform the installation.
